Indigenous Financial Education Innovation

Summer serves as the Lead Content Developer for a Native-focused financial literacy initiative with Nixyáawii Community Financial Services, where she develops culturally relevant financial education resources designed to support Native youth in building financial confidence, strengthening money management skills, and understanding long-term wealth-building strategies. She has also worked with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis as a Native Economic and Financial Education Empowerment (NEFEE) Intern, where she contributed to the development of financial education curriculum and resources designed to support Tribal communities.

Her work integrates Indigenous knowledge, behavioral finance, and practical financial education to address not only financial skills but also the relationships, experiences, and beliefs that shape how individuals engage with money.

Through the Financial Sovereignty Initiative, Summer brings together research, lived experience, and community-centered education to support Native individuals and organizations in strengthening financial knowledge, building generational wealth, and advancing economic sovereignty. Her work focuses on creating culturally responsive approaches to financial education that empower communities to define and achieve their own financial goals.

Founder Recognition

Financial Sovereignty Initiative was founded by Summer Wildbill (Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation), an Indigenous financial educator, researcher, and advocate dedicated to advancing financial sovereignty in Native communities.

Summer's work has been recognized by leading universities, national organizations, and media outlets for her leadership in Indigenous economic development, financial education, public service, and research.
